Case Study – Webster Public Library

Learn how Webster Public Library ingeniously improved patron service by repurposing an alarm device, our Big Green Button. This innovative approach allowed them to streamline communication, ultimately creating a more efficient and visitor-friendly experience.

Background

Webster Public Library, located in Webster, New York, serves as a vital resource and community hub for residents in the area.

The library is committed to providing a wide range of services and programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of its patrons. With a diverse collection of books, digital resources, and multimedia materials, Webster Public Library aims to support education, research, and leisure activities.

The library serves a broad spectrum of individuals, including students, families, professionals, and seniors. It strives to create an inclusive environment that fosters learning, exploration, and personal growth for people of all ages.

The Challenge

Webster Public Library faced a unique challenge in protecting the valuable time of staff while also serving patrons efficiently.

With a renovation that relocated public computers away from the information desk, patrons encountered difficulties in seeking assistance with computer issues.

The existing set up led to potential frustration and deterrence from asking for help.

The library needed a solution that would enable patrons to easily request assistance and notify staff promptily, with minimal disruption at the check out desk.

The Success

To address these challenges, Webster Public Library implemented Little Green Button’s “Big Green Button”, in an innovative new way.

While originally designed for a different purpose, the library repurposed it as a “help needed button” for patrons. This innovative use proved to be incredibly straightforward and effective in meeting the specific needs of the library.

The software allowed patrons to call information desk staff for assistance with the push of a button, ensuring a rapid response.

Additionally, it facilitated communication between service desks and enabled the library to call for backup from the staff area when necessary.

Webster Public Library’s successful deployment of Little Green Button highlights the adaptability and effectiveness of the software in enhancing both staff safety and the overall patron experience. It has become a valuable asset in achieving the library’s mission of creating a secure and supportive environment for all.

“In a recent staff survey, 93% of respondents reported that using Little Green Button had made their jobs easier.

Moreover, 100% believed that the software had improved the library’s ability to serve patrons who needed help at public computers.”
