Case Study: RPR Trades

Learn how RPR Trades used Little Green Button to help keep its staff safe in its offices across Australia. Its use of Little Green Button’s duress alarm software helps the firm meet its legal obligations regarding the positive duty of an employer to promote physical and psychological safety.

Background

RPR Trades, which has offices in Victoria, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney, specialises in providing tailored recruitment solutions focusing on optimised performance and risk mitigation. Its protocols have helped workplaces using its workforce solutions reduce incidents by 40%.

The company’s exclusive protocols contribute to creating a safer, more stable workforce, and it takes pride in its meticulous vetting and pre-screening processes to assess candidates against many risk indicators. This approach ensures that every workforce member is suited to their role, and therefore enhances the performance and stability of the organisations RPR Trades helps.

The Challenge

RPR Trades’ commitment to safety also includes the safety of its own staff, who work in offices across Australia that are open to the public. Many visitors come to each office daily for interviews, to collect PPE and speak to staff.

While RPR Trades’ vetting processes are industry-leading, the company’s general manager of people, capability and safety, Ed Milne, felt that there was still an element of risk that it should aim to minimise or remove.

Furthermore, with the changes to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 regarding the positive duty of an employer to promote physical and psychological safety, RPR Trades wanted a solution that could help it protect its workforce and help meet its legal obligations.

The Success

To address the safety risk to its employees, RPR Trades implemented Little Green Button’s duress alarm software across its sites.

It set up bespoke responder groups and escalation paths to ensure that the right people receive alerts and can respond immediately if an alert is raised.

RPR Trades has also encouraged staff who need to travel to client sites to download the mobile app, meaning that they have the same level of support as their on-site colleagues.

Thankfully, RPR Trades hasn’t had an incident where Little Green Button was needed since implementation, but having a dedicated duress alarm system ready for all staff members to use, whether on or off-site, offers them psychological safety at work. Should any kind of distressing or unsafe situation arise, all team members know they can use Little Green Button to call for help.

“LGB is a fantastic solution to the areas of risk we were trying to minimise. Being able to set up multiple people within the business to receive alerts, even on mobile devices, means we are always able to respond immediately to any distress alarm raised.

It also means staff that need to travel to client sites have the same level of support and connectivity via their mobile devices.”
